For Ellie and her now-husband, Jake, their love story began in New York City with a Hinge match, a conversation about their favorite desserts, and a first date at Serendipity over frozen hot chocolate. Less than two years later, Jake proposed in Central Park, and on August 31, 2025, the couple celebrated their wedding surrounded by family and friends at Ellie’s parents’ farm in Granville, Ohio.
Though their lives together began in New York, bringing their wedding to Ohio made the day even more meaningful. It gave Ellie the opportunity to celebrate in a place that was deeply personal to her family and create the kind of wedding she had imagined since childhood.
Ellie knew she wanted to marry Jake, but she had no idea a proposal was coming that day.
Jake enlisted the couple’s pastor, who would later officiate their wedding, to help with his plan. The pastor asked Ellie to meet him in Central Park to film a video for a new series for the church’s social media accounts. When Ellie arrived at their agreed-upon location, however, her pastor was nowhere to be found. Instead, Jake was waiting for her.
With the Central Park pond and New York City skyline in the background, Jake proposed, turning an ordinary day in the city into the beginning of their engagement story!
Although Ellie and Jake live in New York City, Ellie knew she wanted to find her wedding dress in Columbus. Her goal was to make the experience one her family could share, especially so her 90-year-old grandma could join her, along with her mom and childhood best friend!
Friends who had previously shopped at La Jeune Mariee had already raved to Ellie about the gown selection and the boutique’s hospitality, quickly putting LJM at the top of her list when it came time to shop for her wedding dress. Before she began shopping, Ellie had always pictured herself in an A-line silhouette, but she wasn’t quite sure about two classic bridal details: lace and a strapless neckline.
During her appointment, Ellie explored a variety of styles and silhouettes, giving herself the opportunity to discover what she truly wanted in a gown. With our expert stylist, Christine, by her side, Ellie was guided toward Monique Lhuillier’s Fleur de Lis. A gorgeous take on the classic A-line, the gown featured a strapless neckline and all-over lace, bringing together the very details Ellie had been unsure about.
The moment Ellie put it on, she knew it was the gown she would marry Jake in! Sometimes, the details you’re not quite sure about at first become the ones you can’t imagine your gown without.
Ellie’s wedding vision was rooted in something she had loved long before she ever started planning her own wedding: Father of the Bride. As a child, the movie’s iconic backyard wedding had left an impression on her, and she always imagined celebrating beneath a tent at her parents’ home. That vision ultimately became a reality, with the couple hosting their reception at Ellie’s parents’ farm in Granville.
The couple also drew inspiration from the timeless aesthetic of Nancy Meyers, creating a wedding that felt classic, warm, personal, and effortlessly inviting. Rather than letting tradition dictate every detail, Ellie and Jake focused on finding meaningful ways to make their wedding feel like a reflection of their relationship and the people who brought them to this moment. Their ceremony included family performances, while their first dance featured choreography they chose together. Table numbers were made special with watercolor paintings of some of their favorite places in New York City, bringing a piece of the city where their relationship began into their Ohio celebration.
One of the most meaningful details came from Ellie’s dad, who sent the couple a love song to listen to every day throughout their engagement. They turned those songs into the soundtrack for cocktail hour, even printing lyrics from some of their favorites on the cocktail napkins. Ellie also loved working with Sarah Marks of Ingeborg Flora Co. to dream up the day’s floral installations, bringing her vision for the celebration to life.
Perhaps the most special part of the day was simply where they celebrated it. With their reception held at Ellie’s parents’ farm in Granville, the couple were able to begin their marriage surrounded by family in a place that already held so many memories. One of Ellie’s favorite moments came as they exited St. Luke’s Episcopal Church after their ceremony, greeted by cheering guests, bubbles, and flower petals before climbing into their getaway car, complete with a “Just Married” sign and cans tied to the back bumper. And after worrying that their August 31 wedding might bring heat, humidity, or thunderstorms, the couple were gifted with a crisp 72-degree day that made the celebration even sweeter!
After experiencing the joy of wedding planning, Ellie has one piece of advice for future brides: keep your relationship at the center of every decision! “This is the beginning of your life together, and the most important thing about your wedding is that you will walk away from it married to each other.”
For Ellie and Jake, that sentiment was reflected throughout their entire wedding day. From the personal details woven into the celebration to the decision to gather at Ellie’s family farm, everything came back to the people, places, and memories that shaped their story. And for a couple whose love story began over frozen hot chocolate in New York City, beginning their marriage surrounded by the people they love in Granville made their wedding day all the more meaningful.
